Royal Dental Practice understands that accidents happen. You may crack a tooth due to a fall, or a piece of your tooth from a sports injury. Dr. Roya Shoffet-Yaghoubian is also passionate about caring for seniors’ unique needs. As we age, new problems may arise. Certain unchecked dental habits, like chronic teeth grinding, can lead to fractures and make a tooth vulnerable to damage. Our West Hills, Los Angeles, California team provides care that is fit for royalty, regardless of whether your broken tooth requires removal or can be preserved. As appropriate, we also offer mobile dentistry services to diagnose and treat fractures from the comfort of your home. In select cases, fillings and extractions may be provided through mobile dentistry.
It all starts with Dr. Shoffet evaluating the tooth. During a visit to our office (or your home), she will use her know-how and advanced technologies to diagnose your tooth. Treatment recommendations depend on the nature and severity of the crack or fracture. There are generally four different types of cracks:
No. The first type mentioned above is primarily a cosmetic issue. You can develop these shallow depressions in the teeth due to wear and tear associated with aging. If you are bothered by the look of crazy lines, though, Dr. Shoffet is happy to discuss ways to cover them up. Procedures like dental bonding and porcelain veneers can make these imperfections disappear, restoring the youthful appearance of your teeth.Ā
Yes! Fractured cusps affect the tooth above the gumlineāthe crown. After removing damaged areas, we can often restore its look and strength by applying a new dental crown. Even a split tooth may get a second chance. Endodontic treatments like root canal therapy may be used to preserve the tooth, followed by restoration with a dental crown. Vertical root fractures, however, usually require extraction.
We use gentle, precise techniques to ensure a comfortable experience. Treatment may involve dental sedation or deeper options like general anesthesia or IV sedation, administered by an anesthesiologist. These are especially helpful for patients with Alzheimer’s or dementia, reducing confusion and discomfort.
Since not all cracks cause pain or visible changes, attending regular checkups is important. Dr. Shoffet can monitor your teeth and gums. If you experience discomfort that comes and goes or lingers after biting, contact Royal Dental Practice. Our West Hills, Los Angeles team also accommodates emergencies. Call us at (818) 334-6655.
