Welcome to our dental family!

What to expect from office visits, the backbone for a lifetime of oral health

Dr. Roya Shoffet-Yaghoubian gives patients of all ages and from all walks of life the “royal treatment.” Dr. Shoffet and the Royal Dental Practice team provide care that honors and respects each patient’s unique needs, preferences, background, and personal history with dentistry. While we are proud to provide all of the services you and your family need for a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile, Dr. Shoffet’s highly personalized and compassionate approach distinguishes her from other general dentists in the West Hills area of Los Angeles, California. This approach empowers patients and caregivers with information they can trust to support oral health that also supports overall health and well-being.

What can I expect from a visit to your office?

First, we welcome you with open arms to the Royal Dental Practice family! The initial visit is about getting to know you, your child, or your senior parent. We want to get up to speed with any medical conditions or medications that can affect oral health or that can be affected by the health of the teeth, gums, and mouth. Dr. Shoffet performs a comprehensive exam that not only assesses the health of the teeth and gums but also checks for conditions like oral cancers. These conditions can present as lumps or bumps that may be felt inside the mouth or on the neck. For what can’t be seen with the unaided eye or felt by touch, Dr. Shoffet may detect using low-radiation digital dental X-rays. Cleanings are also performed to remove the plaque that builds up and hardens on the teeth and at the gumline. This tartar or calculus must be removed with special tools and the type of expertise available at our practice.

How often should I visit your office?

We recommend a dental checkup and professional cleaning every three months for adults. Six-month cleanings tend to fall short; plaque forms within 90 days. Frequent cleanings help to prevent this destructive bacterial film from accumulating. We help to keep these and other substances in check. The quarterly visits we recommend also promote early diagnosis and treatment of conditions. Dr. Shoffet can identify any changes in your mouth and intervene before they cause damage. Decay, gum disease, and other problems are not only traumatic, but they may require aggressive, time-consuming, and costly treatment. Keeping more frequent visits helps us to stay a step ahead of the complications of these and other oral diseases.

Can you help me take better care of my teeth and gums at home?

We are happy to! During checkups, Dr. Shoffet can discuss the products and techniques you use to brush and floss at home. We’ll also discuss habits and nutrition that can influence your oral health. Once we better understand your needs, we can provide recommendations or even samples of different products you can try. Dr. Shoffet can also prescribe medicated rinses and other oral care products. We may even show you ways to clean areas that are harder to reach and more challenging to brush and floss. Some of our preventative services are also a great complement to thorough and consistent home care. They include dental sealants to protect decay-prone back teeth and fluoride and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) therapy to build up the tooth’s natural armor, kill bacteria, and prevent cavities and further damage to vulnerable teeth.

What if my relative has a hard time getting to your office?

We are here to help, and we truly mean this. We are that rare dental practice that “makes house visits.” Yes, we offer mobile dentistry services. For older patients and others with mobility or health challenges that make getting to the dentist for care difficult, we bring the care to them. Dr. Shoffet has a genuine understanding of the unique needs of seniors. She has been treating this population for years, and geriatric dentistry is a true passion for her. She may perform services from the comfort of your home, including fillings and extractions in very limited situations. We invite you to contact us to find out more about this important service.

If it’s been more than three months since your last checkup, call Royal Dental Practice today to schedule an appointment. Our team in the West Hills of Los Angeles, CA, can be reached at (818) 334-6655.
