At Royal Dental Practice, we say that your smile is forever. We live by this principle. Led by Dr. Roya Shoffet-Yaghoubian, our team understands that tooth loss is not a “normal” process of aging, nor does it have to be a foregone conclusion. We treat our more “experienced” patients with exceptional geriatric dentistry that meets their evolving needs. We also provide warm and friendly care within a warm setting that embodies our name – the “royal treatment.”
Maintaining appointments at our office in West Hills Los Angeles, California, is essential at every age and life stage. During these appointments, Dr. Shoffet does a thorough cleaning of your teeth and also promptly examines your mouth to pinpoint signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral and pharyngeal pre-cancers, and cancerous lesions. When detected sufficiently early, we can successfully resolve the condition and preserve your teeth!
Dental check-ups and cleaning are ideally recommended every 3-4 months for most adult patients or at least twice a year or once every six months throughout life for younger individuals. As our patients accumulate more birthdays, Dr. Shoffet may recommend that visits be scheduled more frequently. Aging is a risk factor for some potential threats to your oral health. Notably, xerostomia refers to “dry mouth.” This condition can be caused by:
Saliva is important to your teeth and mouth. It functions as a “natural cleanser” to aid in removing food particles. Furthermore, it helps to neutralize acids and limit bacterial overgrowth. In doing so, saliva presents a “protective factor” against the leading causes of tooth loss: dental decay and periodontal disease. We will likely recommend products to moisturize your mouth and stimulate the production of saliva. In this manner, we protect the teeth and the rest of your mouth and help you avoid the need for restorative treatments – such as dental crowns, bridges, or dentures.
More importantly, if you already have dentures, maintain routine check-ups so that we can assure the denture is in good shape and still fits well. Over time, dentures may need to be relined, adjusted, repaired, or replaced to sustain healthy function, an attractive appearance, and overall quality of life.
