Tooth loss is not a “normal” part of the aging process. Dr. Roya Shoffet has considerable experience and skill in partnering with seniors to maintain or restore the health of their mouths. She is a trusted source for unhurried and genuinely caring dentistry. Dr. Shoffet’s approach to working with older patients allows her and the team at Royal Dental Practice in West Hills Los Angeles, California, to avoid needing tooth replacement. Instead, we work hard to preserve natural teeth. Should teeth require extraction, dental implants present a safe, affordable, and smart investment in our older patients’ smiles and overall health and well-being.
The process of getting implants is generally straightforward, comfortable, and non-invasive. We may even be able to bring some aspects of initiating your treatment to your door, courtesy of our in-home or mobile dentistry services.
Patients may choose implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures over traditional bridges and dentures due to their unique design. Implant-retained teeth are designed like natural, healthy teeth. The implant is placed and stabilized in the jaw. So, it functions like a tooth root to hold the replacement tooth in place. More than one implant may also be used to support a dental bridge, while as few as four implants can hold an upper or lower denture in place.
Our patients smile confidently, knowing that their denture is not going anywhere! After all, the implant denture (or “overdenture”) is connected to the implant embedded in the jaw. There is no more trouble with chewing due to loose dentures, nor is there concern over potentially embarrassing situations when dentures shift around when laughing or speaking. Likewise, patients with overdentures do not complain of sores or irritation due to loose- or ill-fitting teeth. Arguably one of the most significant benefits of implant-supported teeth is their capacity to halt the progression of, or protect against, bone loss. Bone loss or resorption occurs when patients lose their teeth, and the jawbone doesn’t get the stimulation it needs from behaviors like chewing to stay strong. As the bone retreats, basic functions like eating and speech problems can worsen. Portions of the face may collapse, and facial tissues may fall, which has a deleterious effect on facial shape and appearance.
Call (818) 334-6655 to request a visit to our West Hills Los Angeles, CA office or book an in-home visit. Even patients with existing bone loss can still be candidates for this distinctive modern form of dental replacement, thanks to related procedures to build up bone in the jaw (like grafting).
