Restore the function and appearance of your teeth with Porcelain Dental Crowns
Porcelain dental crowns have been used in dentistry for over one hundred years and are still one of the most commonly used restorations in modern dentistry. This versatile treatment option can restore the function, appearance, and strength of a tooth that has been compromised. At Royal Dental Practice in West Hills Los Angeles, California, Dr. Roya Shoffet uses modern dental ceramics and a gentle touch to help patients regain their oral health.
Why a dental crown might be recommended
Dental crowns are also called “tooth caps.” Whereas a filling, inlay, or onlay covers only a portion of a tooth, dental crowns are a custom-made restoration that covers the entire tooth, much like a cap! Dental crowns can be used in a wide variety of scenarios to restore and protect a tooth, including:
- Protecting a tooth that has become weakened by decay or excessive wear and tear
- Holding a broken tooth together and protecting it from further damage
- After root canal therapy
- Restoring the appearance of a damaged or misshaped tooth
- Keeping a dental bridge in place after tooth loss
- Finishing a dental implant
Actual Patient Results

While dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials, most patients prefer porcelain crowns because they have the same color and luster as natural teeth, blending in seamlessly with your smile. Dr. Roya Shoffet uses high-quality, durable dental porcelain that is designed to last so that you can get many years of use out of your dental crown.

The dental crown process
Getting a dental crown placed involves a couple of minimally invasive procedures that occur over two visits. In your first visit, we will prepare your tooth for the crown and take dental impressions, and then place a temporary crown while we wait for your permanent crown to be made based on the impressions. When it is ready, we will then take out the temporary crown and replace it with the permanent crown after making any minor adjustments needed for proper fit. Dental crowns do not require any special care beyond regular brushing and flossing and routine dental visits.
