Crown treatment generally involves using durable and natural-looking materials to repair damaged teeth. Highly visible front teeth that are broken or otherwise damaged may be optimally treated with all-porcelain dental crowns. Today’s modern all-ceramic or porcelain crowns mimic the properties of natural tooth enamel. This protective covering is incredibly strong – stronger than skeletal bone.
Additionally, with good care, strong and stunning porcelain resists stains very well. It is also designed to last. It is not unusual for these dental crowns to last 5, 10, 15 years, or longer. Again, we can advise on good care to extend the lifespan and attractive appearance of your crowned teeth.
While dental materials do not decay like natural teeth, the tooth structure underneath the crown can be vulnerable to future and further damage. So, it is imperative to maintain good brushing and flossing habits at home and to keep up with dental check-ups and professional cleanings at our office. For patients who are older or have mobility issues, Dr. Shoffet has made it easy to keep up with these essential visits by offering mobile dentistry services. Let Dr. Shoffet bring you the exams, cleanings, and other restorative care! Â
During a consultation visit, Dr. Shoffet will evaluate your troublesome tooth. As appropriate, she may recommend dental crowns to restore a weak or damaged tooth.
If a crown is appropriate, the damaged tissue is first removed. Then, the tooth is reshaped. Impressions are taken and sent to our dental lab, which uses this information to make your permanent crown. A temporary is worn to protect the prepared tooth and support healing while the permanent crown is made. Once ready, the permanent is cemented securely to the tooth and adjusted as necessary. Now, you’re ready for your stunning close-up!
