By partnering with Royal Dental Practice in West Hills Los Angeles, California, you can keep your lovely, natural solid teeth – for a lifetime! Conditions such as dental decay and gum disease do not have to tarnish your smile, health, and overall wellbeing.Â
Dr. Roya Shoffet-Yaghoubian works with patients to prevent the need for restorative treatments. Should conditions such as decay arise, she essentially recommends conservative treatments. Dental procedures characterized as “conservative” preserve maximum healthy tooth structure. They precisely remove only those tissues that are irreversibly damaged. Conservative dental restorations, such as onlays, are indistinguishable in appearance and function from natural, healthy teeth.
Your tooth is like an onion. Pull back the protective enamel, and you get the darker, softer dentin layer. Underneath the dentin resides the soft pulp. Substances such as bacteria, plaque, and tartar erode at the tooth from the enamel inward. Early-stage enamel erosion may be resolved with modifications to hygiene and professional services like fluoride supplementation. However, if this form of decay goes untreated, cavities or holes in the tooth may develop. Some larger holes or more severe damage may be effectively treated with a dental onlay.
Each onlay is a toothlike dental material designed and shaped to replace damage affecting the hollow surface of the inside of the tooth between its cusps, tips, or points, and at least one of those cusps. Our doctor collects exact information about your tooth after damaged tissue has been removed and uses this information to fabricate the onlay. Once your dental onlay is made, it is secured or bonded to the tooth after confirming its proper fit and appearance.
Each patient is brilliantly unique and deserves one-of-a-kind royal treatment. For some of our “guests,” a filling may suffice to repair smaller cavities and restore the health and structure of the tooth. Others may benefit from dental inlays, which provide more coverage than a dental filling but less coverage than an onlay. Large fillings leave the tooth vulnerable to future cracks and decay. So, onlays may be appropriate for patients with more extensive cavities or who have existing big or worn fillings. Inlays are applied only to the hollow chewing surface of the tooth. The tips or cusps remain unaltered.
Detecting and addressing oral problems early is generally associated with less invasive, less costly, and less time-consuming treatment.
